Case Study - Analysis of Potential Freight Forwarding/Customs Brokerage Acquisition
A major transportation company was considering expanding its service offerings to include freight forwarding and customs brokerage. Norbridge worked with the client to better understand the industry and to develop an entry strategy. Based on that work, the team continued the process by conducting analysis on potential acquisition opportunities.

Approach
Phase I of the project was the market entry strategy. The project included an analysis of current and future market trends, needs-based customer segmentation, assessment of package and freight business synergies and conflicts, assessment of client capabilities and requirements, and an analysis of buy/build/align options.

Phase II of the project included a detailed analysis of potential acquisition candidates to identify the fit with the client's needs. The team assessed the financial and operational performance, systems capabilities, customer relationships, geographic coverage, and carrier relationships/buying power of several target companies. The team considered various different potential acquisition strategies including buying a large company, buying a mid-sized target as a platform to grow, and integrating multiple smaller companies.

Value Added
The project thoroughly analyzed potential client opportunities and strategies. The market entry strategy and investigation of potential acquisition opportunities was critical to the decision-making process of client senior management.
