Brian D. Machinist

Brian is a Partner at Norbridge, Inc. and based in our Massachusetts office.  His areas of expertise include: corporate, marketing and R&D strategy business development and licensing.   Prior to Norbridge, Brian worked in Business Development at AVEO where he helped support various product in-licensing and R&D out-licensing activities.  Prior to AVEO, Brian was involved in R&D and commercial manufacturing experience at Acusphere and Pfizer, respectively. His experience spans all functional areas including: R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing and Business Development.

2005-Present Partner – Healthcare Products Practice

Representative Drug Delivery Projects include:

  • Identified and evaluated of new transdermal product concepts resulting in four new fully funded R&D programs.

  • Developed strategy for Endo Pharmaceuticals and their Lidoderm® lidocaine transdermal patch business.

  • Developed corporate strategy to enter the generic transdermal patch market and pricing models to evaluate potential ANDA candidates.

  • Developed marketing strategy and label expansion opportunities for a globally marketed long acting sustained release implant product.

  • Evaluated commercial attractiveness of alternate active ingredients and potential indications for various transdermal patch products.

Representative Business Development Projects include:

  • Identified and evaluated late stage transdermal products as potential license and acquisition candidates.

  • Conducted due diligence and commercial assessments for various drug delivery products including transdermal patch and vaginal ring based products.

  • Facilitated introductions for various out-licensing opportunities.

  • Identified potential partners, solicited interest and successfully negotiated out-licensing agreement for Saladax Biomedical.

  • Collaborated with senior leadership to develop a strategy to accelerate transformation of the company from a R&D platform provider into a fully integrate pharmaceutical company.

  • Identified Japan focused in-licensing strategy leading to successful in-licensing of targeted small molecule MP-412 from Mitsubishi Pharma.  

  • Supported identification and negotiation of external R&D partnership opportunities.

Acusphere, Inc.

A Cambridge, MA based company founded by Robert Langer at M.I.T. based on novel microsphere drug delivery technology.

 2000-2003 Senior Associate

  • Developed product concept and business case for AI-850, a novel formulation of Bristol Myer’s Taxol® with key benefits of rapid infusion time and reduced formulation associated side effects.

  • R&D and manufacturing activities to support successful IND filing and Phase 1 trial for AI-850 program.        

Pfizer (formerly Wyeth’s Genetics Institute Division)

1998-2000 Associate Quality Control

  • Supported internal and 3rd party manufacturing and quality control for US launch of Benefix® recombinant Factor IX.
